How to Use IFFT and Tray.io to Make Your Business Run Better

July 10, 2015

Businesses of all sizes are jumping on the bandwagon of integrated automation software, and for good reason. Fully integrated systems let businesses owners run every aspect of their business, from front to back, all in one place. However, professional IT integration can be costly, and scaling up as the business grows costs even more. Luckily, there are platforms out there that make it easy for business owners to integrate platforms by themselves.

IFTTT Is Perfect for Small Businesses

It all started with IFTTT (If This, Then That). It’s a free app that lets users automate a variety of tasks and improve productivity. The backbone of this system is its open-source marketplace of “recipes.” These recipes are created by fellow IFTTT members and are presented as a downloadable package. Business owners who want to integrate an automation formula simply find what they’re looking for on the site, download the “recipe,” and switch it on.

For example, if you want e-mails whenever someone mentions your brand on social media, there’s a recipe for that. If you want to keep track of your content and automatically save past blog posts to a spreadsheet, there’s a recipe for that, too. If you want to make your own recipe, IFTTT’s easy visual interface lets you build recipes for over 70 different channels. IFTTT has a lot of great recipes for automating small business operations, but what about big companies?

IFTTT’s Big Brother, Tray.io

Tray.io took IFTTT’s big idea and scaled it to an even bigger audience: enterprise businesses. The open-source and market place concepts are the same. Tech-oriented members create “recipes” that are represented visually within the Tray.io interface. However, these recipes and apps are usually more complex because they have to work on a larger, often separated scale.

When using Tray.io, business owners can download one automation recipe, drop it onto a central platform, and instantly integrate it across multiple branches of the business. It’s a DIY way to integrate your own automation systems – integrations that typically cost enterprise businesses almost $500 billion a year. Automation systems like IFTTT and Tray.io are making it much easier and more cost effective to run your business smoothly.
