How to Energize Your Marketing for the 2017 Holiday Season

September 7, 2017

It feels like it’s too hot to even think about the holidays, but they’ll be here before you know it. It may seem early, but now is the time to start planning for holiday success. In fact, 62 percent of retailers say the most important aspect of successful holiday marketing is early preparation. If you’re ready to get started, follow these steps.

Plan for Social Media Integration

Last year, retailers said Facebook was the most important social media channel, followed by Twitter and Instagram. Forty-two percent of retailers say they plan to focus on social media marketing even more this year.

Email Ranks at the Top

Email marketing is the best way to reach your target audience, according to 66 percent of last year’s retailers. Many of them expect email marketing to be even more important in 2017. Data shows more consumers open emails from businesses during the holidays than they do other times of the year. News on holiday sales and events catches user interest and piques their curiosity.

Make Your Email More Effective

Personalize your email marketing to make sure customers read them. Forty percent of last year’s retailers said personalization was the most important aspect of successful email marketing.

Promotions were another highly successful aspect of email marketing, according to 59 percent of retailers. Add coupons to emails and tell users about them in the subject line. Advertise discounts whenever you offer them throughout the season.

Map out your entire campaign by building a Gantt chart, a visual representation of your email campaign throughout the holiday season. A Gantt chart helps you see every step of the marketing process, tells you who is responsible for each part, and creates a timeline for implementation. Use your chart to keep track of progress so everyone can tell at a glance what’s already complete and what’s still to come.

Consider adding triggered emails to your marketing campaign. They’re named that because email is automatically sent when triggered by an event or a change in customer online behavior.

Even though it’s important to plan ahead, prepare for emergencies and last-minute changes by developing a multipurpose template that meets your businesses’ requirements and allows content to be easily adjusted.

Early preparation will streamline marketing processes and make it easy for even procrastinators to jump in. Start developing your holiday strategy now to make 2017 the most successful holiday season yet.
